Buildings in the future

One of the most interesting themes in the future will be the question about our houses. Will they be able to swim or resist a Hurricane?

Moveable houses

Floating house
Especially next to big rivers or the coast houses they are able to swim already exist. The idea is to place the house on a swimming platform which can stays on an endangered area or the water, paved on big metal columns. This platform rises up when the water is rising and so the house does and nothing gets wet.
In the future the areas where these houses could be
used will grow because the sea level ascends.

Another idea is to build these houses directly into the shallow water which would have the advantage that no land is used.
In addition to that these systems can be used to save buildings or even cities like Venice, they already exist, for the coming water.

Sinking houses

The same effect also works in the other direction, into the earth. It's also possible that houses will be able to resist hurricanes or other storms while just sinking into the earth.
The disadvantages of this concept are that the hydraulic systems which are needed are very expensive and it needs a lot of space.

Towns in the future

Top-down cities

One idea is that the cities in the future will be built according to the top-down approach which means that cities will be planned by the government and the people are allowed to build their houses into this higher structure. Some cities in Asia already use this concept but it is too early to draw conclusions about the success of these projects.
A big problem of this idea is that a city like this cannot grow as fast as a bottom-up city but this problem can be solved by a structure that allows nearly infinite growth.

Conclusion

Example: Mega City in 2100

In 2100 we have probably realised all of the named concepts and more. This article is mainly about the houses in the future but I think it is not so easy to speak about only one house in the future because everything will be networked with each other. That is why it's so important to bring all of these concepts together in a town.
In 2100 every city will be turned into a bottom-up town because this type is much more organised and as a result of this much faster than a normal city because everything is planned before the town already exists. But I don't think that we will lose our individuality by this because we will still have our own home. These single houses will have one of the named move directions, most of them will probably go down because going up only protects against the coming water. The house itself will decide to go up or down on its own or when a greater order, for example from the government, arrives.

Also cities they are completely built in the water may have the opportunity to sink on the ground if something dangerous happens.
